Nicholas celebrates his 24th birthday on 1 April this year. Nicholas de Roumanie Medforth Mills (3rd in the line of succession to the Romanian throne) will become HRH Prince Nicholas of Romania on 1 April 2010 – according to the Document of the Head of the Royal House, issued on January 5, 2005. Nicholas will assume the title, style and rank when upon his 25th anniversary or immediately in case of the demise of the current Head of the Royal House and at that time he will enter in the order of succession to the Throne (Fundamental rules of the Royal family of Romania, Chapter 1, article 2 ‘Titles of members of the Royal House’).
Nicholas came for the first time in Romania on 25 April 1992 together with the royal family. In the image on the left Nicholas (Nicolae) is with King Michael during that first visit, when the King was allowed in the country for the first time since January 1948. King Michael was greeted by huge crowds numbering hundred of thousands of people waving monarchist banners and national flags in a thrilling homecoming after 45 years in exile. © Diana Mandache
