I am based in Bucharest and we celebrate the Orthodox Easter over this week end. In the past this was an important event at the Romanian Royal court, with religious ceremonies and special Easter meals.  I found in the course of my research in the archives the menus for the Easter meals served to King Michael and Queen Mother Helen in April 1944, some sixty five years ago. Because the war was raging on at that date, the menus list simpler and leaner courses than was the case in peace time, but nevertheless they seem quite tasty: eggs, caviar (no doubt from Romania’s the Danube Delta), lamb, etc. The royal menus are adorned at the top with the royal cipher of King Michael. ©Diana Mandache
