Hunting lodge (Sarugyol) in the Rila National Park, property of Simeon of Bulgaria
Bulgaria’s State Forestry Agency (SFA) is to launch legal proceedings to reclaim 1200 ha of forest from Simeon of Saxe-Coburg. Head of the SFA, Georgi Kostov was quoted by Bulgarian daily Standard as saying “we will consult with legal offices and do our best to reclaim the land. We will test the notary documents of 1930.” The SFA intended to prove that the notary act of the Bulgarian royal family was invalid and in violation of the law at the time it was issued. Additionally, as some of the restituted forest was part of the Rila National Park, pursuant existing legislation, this territory could not be private property, Standard said.
