A splendid Faberge silver-gilt pearl and enamel heart shaped photograph frame was given to Thyra by her sister Empress Maria Feodorovna (Est. £60,000 –80,000). The gift was made in December 1905. Heart-shaped objects have an important place in works by Faberge: a heart was in the middle of two Easter eggs given by Nicholas II to his mother and heart-shaped cuff links were given by Empress Alexandra to her husband to celebrate the birth of their children. The frame is made even more personal with the addition of a beautiful miniature portrait of Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna. Workmaster: Michael Perchin, St Petersburg.
