We had here in Bucharest on 10 May (the old National Royal Day of Romania) last year an exhibition of Greek and Romanian traditional costumes that belonged and were worn by Helen of Greece, King Michael’s mother. The exhibition was organised at the wish and initiative of the Crown Princess Margarita of Romania for honouring her grandmother. I looked on the net for news and acknowledgements about this interesting event, but to no avail. With the exception of some Romanian newspapers at the time, there is no reference of the exhibition in English or other wide spoken language.
As a result of that lack of coverage I am putting here a number of images from that exhibition opened in the presence of the Romanian Royal Family. The costumes and accessories, all family heirlooms, were never exhibited before. Together with the costumes was also a photographic display with items provided by the Romanian Royal Family and also from my own collection. Its thematic was the Romanian Queens and princesses at diverse events or private gathering together with the Greek princesses, Helen and Irina wearing traditional costumes. ©Diana Mandache
