Would Prince Radu of Romania run for his country’s Presidency in 2009?

HRH Prince Radu, in an interview given to a Romanian tv channel on 30th March, declared that he would not exclude the possibility to run for the presidential elections scheduled for November 2009. He was not interested becoming a prime minister as King Simeon of Bulgaria has been some years ago, although he greatly admires him for that. Prince Radu criticised the amateurship of many among the Romanian political class in sharp contrast with the efficient rule of King Carol I, King Ferdinand or the great personality of Queen Marie that ushered periods of great prosperity in Romania during their reign. Also a supreme example for today Romanians is King Michael, who has suffered so much under fascist, communists and first post-communist regimes, becoming a beacon of high moral attitude for all his compatriots. ©Diana Mandache
